Does anyone used the baking soda for Alk? I was wondering if any baking soda is good or does it has to be a certain kind of baking soda? Thanks.

Regular old Arm and Hammer works fine.

I heard someone said it was baking powder instead of baking soda? So which one is it?

If you want to make an inexpensive alk and calcium supplement check this out.

Also check out all this from the chemistry section.

i use a 2 pound box on a cookie sheet at 300f for 1 hr. allow it to cool and mix it with 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket with a powerhead until its clear (takes about 30 minutes) and pour it into my container for easy despensing. :)

Yep, Arm & Hammer baking soda is what you want. If you want it to raise your pH a bit then do the baking method. If not, then don't. Whenever you dose any alkalinity, calcium, or magnesium suppiment use this calculator. ;)

It is wise to get on a balanced additive. It's harder to keep your levels targeted by dosing seperate suppliments. Please read this.

correct drummereef.
sorry ChillingBoy, :( i just remembered, i forgot to add that by baking it is for increasing your Alk. and when adding it to your tank, it should be done in a high flow/sump area, away from any corals.
