My mag3 pump came with like a mesh filter to put over the pump intake to prevent anything from getting sucked in. The pump will be in a 10g sump with just heaters and probes, no sand, macro, etc. Is this mesh filter needed in that case? Will the filter prevent pods from being circulated back up to the display? Any thoughts or comments.

Ditch the filter.
Detritus and gunk will just inhabit it.
