Few month's ago, I was shopping for a new tank (glass) to replace my 300g reef....after doing all my research, I visited Jesse's place and Bam! like Emeril Lagase say's...this is the "one" looking straight to a 120XL.
After chatting with the wifey, to my surprise, She said what the??? Are you crazy replacing your big tank? My reply to her was, "I'm replacing it with a smaller tank".
She asked me to get the measurement tape...so, I gave it to her. I waited for the Sarcasm but to my surprise there was none!
She measured my 96" incher tank (300g) and asked me "how small of a tank is the replacement?" So I gave her the 120XL dims....She look at me weired, I thought man...she is going to kill me....Then I heared the most beautiful thing...like back in the 90's song from "the Chronic" album...."Nothing but a G thing"!!!
She said to me, the replacement is too small...get a little bit bigger. So here she is waiting to be plumbed along with my other baby Mykah (Macaw)!

Thanks Nuuze...your tank is one of the blue print I'm replicating.
Your tank thread is very inspirational and looks awesome!

Lucky for me, Jesse let me borrowed his suction cups. I think my 300g tank was lighter compared to this tank.

Speaking of weight issue...I had to reinforced my flooring just in case...so, it delayed the project for a day.

Hey Mike,

I hired someone to do it for me...basically, he uses 2x4's, 2X6'S and 4 hydraulic bottle jacks. I think its very simple to do, I could have done it myself but my schedule at that time was hectic.
Good luck on your Elos tank...you will not be disappointed.

No problem Mike. My fixture is at least 60lbs...its pretty safe since the tracks could handle at least 150lbs.

If I'm not mistaken Jesse had a pallet scale and it registered close to 500lbs. Once water, sand, and LR's...who knows, but surely it is going to be very heavy. Reinforcing the floors should be mandatory if the tank is not placed on a concrete floor...jmho.

Bogg,

The aqua unom is for the owner to take so He or she can forget about the dollars spent on this hobby!!! lol! Just kidding...:D
Its actually to help boost the bacteria in a new setup tank.
I can sense an urge to upgrade bro...as I said before, I would have gotten the 120XL since its a nice size tank. Downgrading is what I really want from 300g to 120-130g but my better half surprisingly convinced me go a bit bigger...can't argue with her insights nor wanted to deviate from it...

Btw, thanks for the compli...appreciate it.

Plumbing is in the works....have to take a breather and sip some Jack and Coke... ;)

Super sweet bro. I also got a few of the Elos fish foods and they make my fish crazy. But my fish are pigs so its hard to compare. I can say they like it more than other dry foods, for sure - maybe a little less than arcti pods or mysis. But its awesome to have on hand.

My African Grey passed away two years ago.... RIP Zasu!
Hopefully my progress with this thing will not halt as I am getting exhausted!!!

Robster,
I love those black corners too...Elos stuff is simply amazing!

invincible569,
Thanks Edward...getting a compliment from you is a big deal since you among others changed (in a positive way of course) the reefing world here in the States!!!
My light I chose is the Nuuze's and Naka's Sfiligoi XR4 minus the dimming capability since it does stresses the MH bulbs...just want the look and the reflectors are similar to L3's.
I wanted the Elos 250watters but it is not available yet and I don't want to wait and compromise my livestock's well being...lost many of them due to stress already...sucks!!! :( but it is part of this hobby.
The size of this tank is 210 + or - and exactly like Flig's (David) and Calvin. I know its confusing since Europeans and many parts of the world uses the metric system. I believe the dims of this tank is 64*32*24 or close enough. I will pm you regarding the light mounts...

Romelgin,
Suppah 'Mel? Is your tank still in the works? Can't wait to see the progerss!!! Thanks for the compliment bro...once this tank is done I'll have sometime to help you out......drink your Jack and coke..:) .

You guys gotta tell me if you think the internet is quick. I just got a new Blackberry Curve and its on the Edge Network (same as iPhone) - and I'm finding it painfully slow (Sprint on my Treo and other phone was WAY faster). I was thinking of getting the iPhone but nervous about internet speeds (since it uses Edge and not 3G). Thats really about the only drawback that concerns me. I love the internet and the mapping (google earth?) is waaaay cool. Not quite GPS but still very user friendly.

Great updates by the way. I'm glad you don't appear to be having the fuse problems with the magnetic ballasts. I hope for your sake it stays that way - its been 3 weeks now and I still have no replacement fuses for my Sfiligoi. :(

Robster - Elos lights are fantastic and I'm anxious to see their new 250W possibly with LED - but if you're deadset on a Stealth with ACLS - dirtyreefer has a 1x250W w/ACLS for sale that would be perfect for your size tank. I saw it a few days ago in the used forum. Hopefully Jesse doesn't mind that I posted this in his forum.

I'm probably going to end up with the 160XL too at some point or whatever equivalent that Elos is making at the time. It has to wait though until we get our new house ... still in the planning phases and permitting so we're still about 2-3 years out.

So how long you been away from the islands? Weather's nice over here today ... maybe a little too nice lately (heard about our drought?) Maybe I'll go out and have a portugese sausage, eggs, and rice breakfast just for you. :D

Portuguese sausage, eggs.fried rice and some lilikoi juice...wish I'm there now... Mahalo Spleen!

How are you liking it? This thing is awesome man!!!

Im loving it. Very user friendly. I had the blackberry pearl and I miss the MSN Messenger on it and the ability to install 3rd party programs. I've been learning a lot on the iphone forums. :) I was at Starbucks earlier and someone asked me if it was an iPhone. :) Be ready when you go out in public!

The Internet speeds are ok. but you can connect to Wi-fi at home. I dont think its bad at all, but some people may be used to blazing speeds.

I posted a pic of the iphone on naka's thread on how I was viewing his pics. :)

I have been using ReeCrystals for a few months...been using IO for years with no issues. Never have the clay issue...do you mean rock salt? I also used Mag12 to mix the new salt...the stronger the pump the better...faster too! I have a 50g tank just for saltwater reservoir...I always have a water ready just in case of emergency. Water change is also easy...15 minutes tops. I have a litermeter III and will be implemented to do automatic water change!:D .

No, the salt seems to have clay in it. All of my mixing stuff(garbage can, Mag 18 and heaters) would get coated with a brown solid material. I was mixing 25 gal/week and every 6 months or so I would really have to scrub everything or else I would get this brown clay coating everything. I liked the salt, the tank did really well, but I have never figured out the clay(I am figuring it is bentonite added as a flow aid.

Perry thanks...I got to call Alan if he is working on his project. Are you sure you want to give up that huge tank of yours?

elosusa,
Thanks Jesse for the updates...I do have a guard dog...Doberman to be exact...;) ..lol.

Delsol,
You are welcome to check my tank....are you ready to be Elosized? Trust me, when you see an actual elos tank...its all over...you're hooked on E! lol!

Invince,

Thans bro!

Edward, my wife and I did not have the chance to check out the reef because all we wanted is just to be "lazy" and get pampered at the resort. Just lounging by the beach...pool and wine and dine...This November my wife and I will be in Australia for 3 weeks and definetly visit the great barrier reef. If time permit, we are planning to go to New Zealand as well.

I'm stuck deciding between phoenix 14k, reeflux 10k or 12k and Iwasaki is supposed to release a 14k waterscape DE bulb.

For T5's I was using 2 actinic plus and 2 pure actinic all Giesemann that were cool. But seems that people are doing the 2 actinic plus, 1 pure actinic and 1 aquablue combo.

HWG,

First, welcome back from Jamaica. Looks like it was a very relaxing trip by the pictures. I have traveled the Caribbean many times while in the Navy but only was able to visit Cuba, Puerto Rico and Curacao. I did get to refuel off the coast of Saint Thomas. I am curious though. How did you take care of your tank while you were gone? Are you running a controller? Did you have a tank sitter?

Hmm.... the skimmer? Well that is a little bit of a story. I am still not quite ready. I am keeping my rock alive in 100g rubbermaid trough in the basement using a AP851. The AP901 would be ridiculous on that. I just picked up my custom 150g sump. Expecting my ACIII and accessories this week.

Now here is the dilemma. I am not sure you remember but I bought a 92g Corner tank last year. At the time I was unaware of starphire tanks. So after looking at many nice tanks including yours I think I will never get water in the 92g. I am now looking at getting a 120g starphire tank. I have not decided which one though. Any thoughts?

Last thing. I will be traveling to Anaheim for the Cisco Networkers conference this Saturday the 21st. If you live in the area or an hour or so away it would be cool to see your setup in person.

Mike,
A week is ussually "ok" to leave a tank but,I do have someone that watches my tank when I'm gone. I have no controller as of yet as I 'm shopping for a good controller at this time...elos controller sounds good right about now.
My advice regarding tank situation is go with the 120g starphire...its bigger! and clearer! for sure. Do it right the first time as it would be a pain to tear it again in the future.
You are welcome to come by anytime but Anaheim California is in Southern part of the state and I'm located here in Northern California. About 5 hours away....:( .
If I remember correctly, Jesse mentioned that there is a LFS that sells elos tanks. Maybe you could pm him for the details or I'll try to find out for you...

I don't think I"ll be down grading soon. I'm just getting too impatient to see the tank stock up with corals. By the way I already switch my lighting setup to 3x 400w icecap with BLV 20k bulbs. But the light looks more like 15k to me.

Ed,

My reactor is the Jetstream 1. I do love this reactor....once it is set properly no need to mess with it for a long time. I just actually look at the ph inside the reactor and the co2 running time...that's it. But, I do believe that using this type of reactor, one must implement a peristaltic pump to feed the reactor.
This is my second peri pump....

Hi J, I just added a few ORA corals last month. I need to reaquascape my tank so I can move that giant giga I got from alan to the center of the tank. But I can't do it right now because I'm still baby seating Alan's corals. Once his tank is ready and is corals are moved into his tank I'll start my re-aquascaping.

I change my lighting cause I think the 250W MH is not reaching the bottom of the tank. I wanna keep a not so par demanding sps at the bottom of my tank so I decided to change my light to 400w.

I remember Rollie used to have a 6line wrasse in his tank before. How did he got it out? I need to evict my 6line too cause in has been picking on my mystery wrasse.

What is your stocking plan?

Perry,

Wow!!! reaquascaping your tank would take sometime...I remember when I had my 300g, Aquascaping was a big chore!
That Giga would be awesome on the middle...what a center piece you have in your tank!
Sixline wrasse are very quick and evasive....either you have to take all your LR's or put a screen in the middle of your tank and just take half of the LR's. Working with a trap can work but sometimes it takes awhile before you could catch the right fish.
I think Rolie caught his 6line during feeding, if I remember correctly.
Stocking plan would be few tangs, few anthias, pair of clowns and few wrasses. Maybe I'll add some more of those chromis. Waiting for my black tang...a friend of mine is getting it for me along with a "nice" angel.
This tank will be mixed...sps but mainly lps's.

I want to apologized for those people who were offended by the nature of this thread evolved being off line and non reef related subjects discussed here.
Jesse, please accept my sincere apology as well.....after all, this is a reef forum! A place where many of us could benefit, i.e. learn and trade informations to other reefers...which make our hobby exciting and tackling the impossibility in this hobby.
Happy reefing everyone!

Hey Bud,

I'm a little bit concern...hope she will eat the food you are giving her soon. Angels are notorious finicky eater...maybe you could trick her by wrapping a piece of nori sheet on the LR...;) . I really hope she will eat soon...:(

Thanks Edward....If time gets normal around here, I will play around more with the scaping....want to have the minimalist look but looks like it's getting crowded now. Part of it is due to some corals and clams came from my 300...they occupy too much space..:D .

Amen to that Ed! Having too much stuff ie..corals and rocks inside a small glass kill the looks of the euro/japanese style we try to mimic...scaping is a true art like you have in your tank! Got to find time soon to scape my tank right.
