Hi,
Going through the growing pains of setting up my first sw tank.

Its a 120 RR oceanic. I had 2 sen 900 gph pumps coming up from the sump... one on each return, but the thing sounded like I threw a lawmower into a swimming pool and I thought maybe I had too much flow so i've run both returns to a single pump. I'll use the other for something else i guess, maybe the protein skimmer - Aqua C something or other...

Anyway.. I've got a mix of coral life sand - the stuff that comes with the bio life in it... and crushed coral/aragonite.

Anyway, even with the one pump its just completely cloudy, and its been about a day.

I didn't wash the sand, didn't know i had to. What now?

Just wait it out, a mechanical filter to remove the small particles can help.

yup...wait. You can help a little by cleaning out the mechanical filters daily, just be cautious you don't knock all the dust right back in the tank. I used an HOB filter when I put some fresh unrinsed sand in one of my setups, and once a day, I'd unplug the unit and carry it to the sink to clean out the filter pads and rinse all the sand out of the bottom of it. Still took 2 weeks for the tank to clear up...but that was also using pulverized limestone for a substrate, which is very very dusty.

Have no fear, it'll settle down. Give it some time and/or try the filter like jdieck said.

The sandstorm during my recent upgrade lasted 6 days. Crystal clear now (5 weeks later).
