purples are really popular and would do well in that tank.

Actually an angelfish NOT A TANG. I would go w/ a kole tang, a small powder blue, or a purple tang. I have a flamefin tang. Super cool fish but very aggressive.

Actually the mimic tang IS a tang that mimics several species of dwarf angels and they are great reef fish and perfect tangs for a 120.

Ditto Kahuna, specifically, a Mimic Tang is the Juvenille form of the Chocolate Tanga great fish by everything anyone has said about them!!

Probably also face a lynching here, but... providing HIGHLY turbulent current in the tank will buy you some tang capacity. However, size is still size...

There are quite a lot of tangs that mimic centropyge when they're very small, not just chocolates (pyroferus?). Both acanthurus and Ctenochaetus.
A Ctenochaetus would go well in a tank like that, or a purple. Purples are always eyecatching character fish, but a bit aggressive. The other small Zebrasoma's are nice too

there is another great thread going on at the same time:

Assuming that you have the best filtration possible it is more an issue of swimming room with tangs. Creatively building your reef in a 120 gal can accomplish this--in my 110 it is high so I have build the reef at the back leaving a 4 foot stretch at the front. If you have a low tank then a central reef would be ideal--fish could swimm all around it and over it.

Sohal get way too big and aggressive for a 120. I think I would choose a purple in that tank.
