We have one that we are considering using in a NC28 that we are setting up. The basic idea is that it is a spinning flow deflector that angles the flow at about 45 degrees from the direction of the output of the powerhead/pump and spins powered by the flow being pushed through it: higher the flow faster the spin. You lose some of the pumps normal expected output, due to the flow being 'bent' by the device and having to push the device as it spins. We tried it on a ~108 gph minjet and could barely feel flow from it on my hand: will try soon with larger output pump. It is a little larger than we are expecting, so will have to figure how to hide in tank behind live rock or something. HTH -Trey

I tried one on my 29 Biocube by could not keep it attached even with the stock pump and trying the different fittings. Every morning I would wake up and it would be down in the sand.

I've used them with good results on small/med maxijets.
They do wear out (the little gears that spin the outer housing).
Too much flow seems to wear them out faster.
They're cheap and not too terribly large. I wish they'd make different sizes.

I have one on. I switched out the return pump for some rio pump, I think it does like 400gph. I had to super glue it in place to keep it on.

Would you reccomend it for smaller nanos, like my BC8 to keep my growing coral collection happy? What are the other advantages to it? Would the stock pump on the BC8 even be strong enough for it?

I'm not sure what the stock pump is on the BC8 but I had some corals in my tank before I put it on and before I added the two streams and they definately perked up when it was added.

I've had one a few months & really like it. It may cut down on the flow a bit, but it also spreads the flow over a wider area so it probably makes you think it cuts the flow more than it actually does.

Sounds like a good idea, since I plan on lots of corals. I like the idea of the flow being dispersed more than straight from the powerhead. What's the best online source?

Foster & Smith, Marine Depot, etc. It's carried by most online aquaria suppliers. I think I got mine on sale from Foster & Smith, but that was quite a while ago.
