I have a Rainbow Monti and there is some sort of poylp starting to grow on the same rock as the Monti, it looks like this poylp is taking over the Monti's space. I cannot chip or break off a piece of this rock but I need to remove this Poylp. It is a single head polyp, what is the best way to kill this thing? Can I stab it with a toothpick or something?

Sorry, the picture is not the best quality, my lights are still off and I had to use a flash, it almost looks like some sort of sand polyp or something. You can see it grayed out/killed the monti.

could be an aptaisia, a pest anenome, i would chip the rock off, or use kalk paste, or joes juice or something.

glue a small shell or rock over it, use a ton of glue so it can't pop out the side, your monti will then encrust on the rock or shell

gotcha, I will try using the glue method, thanks atzak.

I have a hitchhiker polyp growing right next to my rainbow monti too. I saw them last night stinging each other trying to battle it out:) I'm just going to let them duke it out and see who wins. The monti is only being affected by one small area, so I don't forsee it killing the whole colony or anything like that. However, I'm going to keep a close eye on them to make sure the fighting doesn't get out of hand.

hatfieij,

If it is aptaisia it will win hands down. Best to try and get kill it.

shramj,
You could also try to use the camel back shrimp if it is aptaisia. The only natural thing I found that will eat those guys. Just make sure its a camel back shrimp somethimes LFS mislabel them and the other shrimp that looks like a camel will not touch the stuff.

I ended up dabbing some superglu gel over it and haven't had a problem since. Thanks, Joe

Another way is to apply epoxy to it.
