View Full Version : ASM G1x Skimmer, help please
I have an ASM G1x skimmer and I understand a bit how it works. If I raise the grey tube then more water flows into the collection cup and if I lower the tube then less to none enter the cup.
My question is what setting am I looking for to adjust the skimmer to work the best? Do I want the bubbles to constantly flow over the the inner cup and into the outer cup? If I do that I have to change the cup every hour, hehe.
Please help if you can. :)

no you dont you want it to bubble right at the inner rim
How far should I let the bubbles and water rise inside the cup column?

You want to find a happy medium. I set it so I change it every week or so.
The foam should be gathering and eventually hitting the top and then going over into the collection cup. The lower your setting the less freq. you will have to change and the darker the poop will be since it will be more concentrated.

I have an ASM G1 and I let the bubbles start around the junction of the neck, where the body and the cup meet. Dump the cup once a week or so and wipe it clean.

I have a Bermuda Aquatics Protein Skimmer and set the water level about 1/4" to 1/5" from the top. Depnding on when and how the skimmer works it will produce a few inches of crap in the overflow about every 3 to 4 days.
You didn't say how new your skimmer is so keep in mind, if it's new, it needs time to break in.

I have an ASM G-2 and I have messed around with the height of the bubbles to try and find the best position. I like to have the bubbles rise to the middle of the column inside the collection cup. The bubbles then slowly build over time so some of them rise the rest of the height of the column and drop into the collection area. This seems to collect some really dark skimmate to fill the cup halfway about every week.

My bad :) Its only 3 days old, hehe
It skims but I just wanted to know how high I should let the bubbles rise. There were no instructions witht the skimmer and I had no idea how to adjust the grey tube. I fiqured that by accident, hehe.

If your skimmers new I'd set the bubbles to rise to the base of the collection cup. If you don't get any skimmate in a few days then I'd raise it a tad and then go from there. You'll probably get some light watery skimmate for a week or so so don't be worried.

I have an ASM G1 skimmer. I set mine to rise to 1/2 to 3/4 of the ways up the column in the middle of the collection cup. The collection cup fills up every 7-10 days.
