Please forgive my ignorance. I've done quite a bit of reading on the boards, but the search function is constantly 'disabled', and I haven't been able to find a good answer to this:

Can Zoas be kept with SPS corals?

I know, I know...there are TONS of "SPS" type corals with varying care requirements and likely a similar variation in care requirements for Zoas. BUT specifically, how do Zoas tolerate the 'typical' high light and high flow environments that many SPS seem to thrive in?

Feel free to point me to a good reference and I won't bother you no more... :D

The problem with keeping the two together is that SPS like pristine water conditions to thrive and Zoas prefer dirtier water to thrive. There is no happy medium. You need to decide whether you want colorful SPS and dull zoos or vice versa.

I disagree. Zoa's will thrive in most conditions and do quite well in pristine water. I think I have pretty good growth and colors in my zoa's and palys and my tank is mostly sps.

Wow... impressive zoas. Are you running any actinic supplementation over your tank or strictly MH?
Which ballast are you using to drive the bulbs?

Which ballast are you using to drive the bulbs? I'm using Icecap ballasts for both MH and T5. I have 2-250watt de 14k Phoenix with 2-39watt superactinics.

Jesse~ Show off... lol :D Nice pics as usual... How many Armagedons you have now???

taithao~ Yours will after a short while... I started with 2 polyps of NG's in January, and now have over 20... They grow rediculous fast... :D

And back on topic, IMO zoas and SPS can get a long... You just have to find the different types that thrive under the same conditions... I have 3 colonies of SPS in my zoa dominated tank that thrive and do well, and I have probably 6 or so colonies of zoas in my SPS dominant tank that do fantastic... :D

Some people have problems with zoas that grow really fast in their SPS tank, to the point where the zoas overgrow their SPS... These are the people that get on here and ask to buy our Zoa Nudis... :) Just goes to show that an apple tree in the middle of a corn field is still considered a weed... All depends on what your after to propagate... ;)

I'm up to 4 polyps of Armageddons now... :) Had them about a month...

And I'm diggin' these two SPS... Probably because they're the two I don't have and would like... ;)

So you're saying that Zoas and SPS can be successfully kept together?

(yes, I'm being facetious)
