Oceanic vs. Perfecto vs. All Glass??

I am considering an upgrade to a 150 gallon tank. Any differences in brands for a Reef Ready set-up? All glass seems popular, but Oceanic and Perfecto seem to be available also.

Well, All-Glass and Perfecto are more or less competitors in the mass-produced aquarium business. Some people prefer one over the other, but more or less, they are comparable. I personally prefer All-Glass over Perfecto but many people like Perfecto and are very satisfied with their tanks.

Oceanic is a "higher line" of aquariums, made by the same company that makes All-Glass. They offer things like Starfire glass on the front glass, lower profile overflows on their reef-ready tanks, etc. They are considerably more expensive than either of the other two. I have four tanks...three are Oceanic but I just bought an All-Glass. I have to say that while the features that Oceanic makes available these days are attractive but at the same time, they are rather expensive and I didn't think in the case of the new 110-gallon tank I most recently bought, the features were worth the disparity in cost. You might feel otherwise, though.

I should add that, having had Oceanic tanks, the quality of the new All-Glass is very high and it appears to be very well made.

last i heard oceanic only offers a 5 year warrenty while perfecto offers 15 year. like i said thats the last i heard. i want to go with the company that stands by their tanks. just my 2 cents.

I have an AGA 125 and just recently purchased a used Oceanic 215. The Oceanic is a nicer tank; the seams are put together in such a way that it gives a very clean look around all of the seams. The sealant on the 125 spreads out much further. The downside is that the Oceanic tank is braced by a very large, very thick, and very green piece of glass over the center section. This is gonna KILL the PAR from my center light.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one; if possible, see the tank before you buy it.

oceanic is easily the best of the three, but more expensive. I believe AGA owns Oceanic now.

I plan to go check out the tank tonight. Fron the sounds of it, the glass brace is a clear piece of glass. I won't know till I go take a look. Having a green glass, or frosted glass will not make for a good lighting lay-out.

I have a brand new Oceanic 90 gal RR ultimate sitting in the room with me now as I type. The warranty is now LIFETIME. The Starphire glass is excellent. I do not see any lighting problems with the center brace as discussed. Very nice tank!!! Is it worth the extra $$$? not sure, but I am certainly not disappointed.

When I stated the glass was very green, I meant that it was the same stuff the rest of the tank is made out of; it's not low iron. I tried some small experimenting with a Surefire flashlight last night. The biggest issue I can see at the moment is going to be the fact that the glass is going to reflect a lot of light directly back at the bulb, due to the flat surface. It may not be that big of a deal. Either way, it's a nice tank and I got it for a good price.

Actually, Oceanic bought out AGA about 6 years ago (back when I still worked at AGA).

The company was started by two brothers (Randy and Jerry Ritzo) in their garage back in the 70s. They were the first to use a glass bottom (instead of slate). Hence the name All-Glass Aquarium. About 10 years ago, Randy bought out Jerry and owned the company himself. About 6 years ago, Randy sold the company to Oceanic for about $465 million. Just a little history of AGA. Awesome tanks! :D

Now All the companys are owened by central aquatics witch is owned by central pet and garden if i had the money i would buy a oceanic but all glass is much cheaper and almost as nice

Oceanic's warranty (at least for larger tanks) is a lifetime warranty - if you put it on their stand.

I had wanted a Oceanic Tech tank, but i own a RSM now. So... I had an AGA good quality tanks too. Perfecto is pretty good also.
