Hey, Well I've been in the hobby mssin aaround with a 20 gal reef for about 2 months and i've decided to buy a 100 gal tank. I was wondering if I would be able to keep a trigger fish either a clown, niger, or picasso in there without it eating my other fish, I was also planning on a school of chromis, would those be safe? I don't really have many inverts and I don't plan on getting many more, just a tang or two. Have ya'l kept any in yourtanks? And yes it will be a reef tank. Thanks any info will help.

Be careful if you get a clown trigger as they do get very aggressive and will attack other fish in the tank. As for a school of chromis, they will single each other out until one or two are left. You may start out with say 7 but in 3 months you may only be left with one. Sounds like you have a lot of plans but do some research first.

Those 3 triggers will not handle a reef set-up. If your looking for a reef safe trigger the blue throat and crosshatch are the best. The others will chase your fish and eat about anything they can get ahold of.

Not everyone has that exp with a school of Chromis. I started with 6 almost 3 years ago, and still have all six.

true... But most of the time they will single out the weakest links in the group. All damsel fish will do this.

Maybe, maybe not. A co-worker also has a school of Chromis, and his hasn't done that either. A friend of mine has them as well, no problems. Maybe there are subtle difference in species or tankmates? Dont know.

Besides the blue throat and crosshatch, pink tail and sargassum triggers are popular for reef setups.

I've got a Pinktail in mine. Crosshatches are gorgeous!

Will either of those eat smaller fish like gobies or clowns?

X2, I have a Sargassum in mine and he is a model citizen, except when he bites me as I am cleaning or re arranging things.
