Just curious, seems there are alot of corals and I hear many people saying xenias, so what are some corals you consider weeds? And tell us how you exterminate them.

Green Star polyps and brown button polyps. They are very good starter corals but just don't let them get out of control. :)

taxifloria. It's a type of macro algae, grows incredibly fast.

Damn Mushrooms. If I knew how to get rid of them I would tell you. Im about ready to stick the rocks in freshwater for a month.

give them away for free and cause a infestation of mushrooms on others.

Next to xenias, I have to keep these pruned back and curtailed frequently.

So xenia's are number one on the list for weeds? If you could list them out, which would you put as the top 5 or 10 most annoyingiest weeds around?

I couldn't keep Coralimorpharians alive in my tank if my life depended on it. Run a low nutrient system with lots of flow and light and they'll wither away :p

That goes for pretty much any of the soft corals mentioned in this thread. ;)

Besides, why on earth would I want to stop growing things like these :D

It's so invasive that Caulerpa taxifolia is even illegal to have in some states such as California.

like many others, xenia and gsp. LOTS of frags traded to the lfs for food and other incidentals

Tis' what I got. Oddly enough, my mushrooms seem to barely grow.

Strange how one man's weeds are another man's flowers. The weeds in my garden are 1. GSP, 2. Xenia and 3. Anthellia. I control by pulling, but right now they're the only thing that looks good. Wish I could find mushrooms that looked like those belonging to SDguy. I'd have a garden full of them along with the zoanthids and montipora from jdieck.

I consider a coral a weed, BTW, not really because it gows too fast (I'd have to call most of my acros weeds then ;) ) but because the coral in question kills its neighbors when it grows.

1. GSP
2. Anthelia
3. Brown button polyps
But 1 & 2 I frag for others, so whatever.

In addition to xenia and gsp, I'll add encrusting gorgonian. I took two black trash bags and covered the colony up and put rocks on top, two weeks later most of it was dead but some was still left to scrape off.

I had to kill back some superman monti where it was growing too close to my blood red chalice (my only LPS in that tank which I love). I was about ready to cry squirting kalk on it after trying for an hour to figure out how to get a dremmel or screwdriver in there to just frag it out.

Arggh, got to be Pocillopora spp. first, then green star polyps. The former has taken my tank over.

I guess I'm lucky- I can't keep xenia in my tank for more than a week. I do love my shrooms, though, and when they get out of control, I trade them in.

Green star polyps for sure...it's like watching the blob smother its enemies...I have just started cutting it back as it is has grown to almost 1/4 of my tank

GSP are awsome, but what do you do to cut it down? Take it out and scrub it away? Pick it off? And what do you do with the left overs? garbage can? Or give it to a friend so it can infest their tanks?
