I would like to see pics of the rear compartments if you can and the approx measurements. Nice job with the hood shots, BTW.

I see you have a chiller. I assumed that one would really be required. But...the thread over on nano-reef.com that documents the tank that was set up in the LFS for a couple of months before the release to the public indicated that they were NOT using one. The LFS claimed that temps stayed below 80-81 degrees or so. HUMMMMMMM. Have you tried it with your chiller turned off? It would be an interesting experiment to see what your temps run with out the chiller in operation. Maybe you could try that while your tank is cycling for all of us potential buyers.

Last thing...let us know what you would change, if anything, as your tanks moves along.

Looks great so far....what are your stocking plans.

So...enough questions? I could ask even more, but dont want to push my luck! Thanks for the pics.

Hi Mark,

I will try taking some more shots of the rear compartment in the next day or so. I'll see if I can find a ruler or tape measure to show size.

As a test, I'll leave the chiller off today, but keep the room temp at 78 to see how high the temp goes. Although if it goes too high I'll obviously end the test.

There are a couple of things I am already wondering about. Like others have said, the skimmer seems pretty flimsy, so I will be monitoring how well it seems to work. The water flow in the tank seems ok, but I can't help but wonder if the pumps were just a bit bigger if it would be better. Also, I don't know how others are setting up their chillers, but I am using one of the pumps to pump SW through the chiller. This obviously reduces the efficiency. Any suggestions welcome. If others are using an external pump, what brand and size are you using?

In terms of stocking, I will purchase some CUC's when the tank matures. I'd like to start with some Zoa's and a feather duster, perhaps some Ricordia, and work my way from there to a few SPS corals and possibly a Clam. Fishes will be limited to a Goby until I can do more research on whats compatible given tank parameters.

Please note that I am new to SW and this is my first SW tank so I don't have any comparative experience but will give you my best observations as things happen. Hope this helps.

Hey Mike,

I just received my 28 Nanocube last Monday. Does your wavemaker turn on both powerheads when you first power the wavemaker on? Mine turns on both when first powered, no matter what time interval I have it set for. Once I adjust it to a longer or shorter cycle, it starts turning on the return pumps one at a time. The cycles also aren't static: when set to 90 seconds some cycles are shorter or longer. If I turn it up to 2 minutes the cycles are like 15 seconds. I am going to attempt to exchange for another with jbjlighting: hope they honor their warranty. Anyways, do both your pumps turn on until the time is adjusted when the wavemaker is first powered? I am wondering if that is another defect with my wavemaker or if that is how they are supposed to function. Thank you. -Trey

the only thing i can see i dont like about it is the tank is a closed system with mh i think i would like it to be open on top like the ap24

Hi Trey,

My Wavemaker mine also puts both pumps on when first plugged in. I reset by putting it on continuous for both, then setting the time delay. At any rate, mine seems to be working fine. I just double checked it with a watch just to make sure, and it seems to be fairly accurate to the times listed on the wavemaker. Sounds like you may need to return it.

Also wanted to mention here that I just posted a new thread with the results of a temperature test I did. Not sure how to refer to the thread, but thought I'd make anyone interested aware. This gist is that after 8 hours of lights, the temps were somewhere between 84 and almost 86 degrees F.

Thanks for the reply about the wavemaker Mike. I am going to initiate the return process for our wavemaker tomorrow. That kind of sucks both pumps are powered when wavemaker is first turned on. I live in coastal NC and we occasionally have voltage sags and power outages. It would suck if the power blipped while away at work and both return pumps were on all day. Hmm. Do all wavemakers power both pumps when first turned on?

I saw your post on the NC28 temps. Thank you for the investigative efforts. I responded on that thread with some ideas presented by sditch in Chiller Hook Up Question thread here on reefcentral and questions to others with chillers experience. Thanks again. -Trey

Hi Trey, I have the nano Arctica 1/20. I got the smaller version of the 2 since I knew that I would be keeping my house at 78. It seems to be doing just fine so far.

Try a better skimmer, like URCHIN or REMORA.

I'll do a mod on my 24G to install a 150 W MH also. The 70 W was not enough.
