Anyone have any problems with the Finnex 50w heater being stuck in the on position?

http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=182

We must have had a power surge last night and the heater reset itself. The gauge read 0 but both the heater and power lights were on. The website claims that it will turn off the heater in the event the heat gets over 92, but since the gauge didn't read 92, it never turned it off.

When I felt the tank, it was very warm. I unplugged the heater and plugged it back in and it read 95 degrees. I don't have anything in the tank right now, but this worries me a bit. I have a fan that blows across the water when my 150w MH comes on, but it was off last night when the heater was stuck on.

Anyone heard anything about this before? Solution? Leave the fan on? Get a controller to regulate the temp instead of the using the heater controller?

I believe reeferhead has a 500watt finnex which sticks on after a week of use,

I wouldn't even chance it with that heater. I had one (cant remember what brand) stick on years ago while I was out of town and lost my whole 55 gal reef.

I think that I'm going to pick up a Ranco controller and use that along with the heater. That will override the heater controller and keep the tank a constant 79.

Why don't you just pay $10 and get a good and reliable stealth or something. No need to buy a controller unless you want to run a chiller.

Well, the finnex heater was what I thought, a $26 good and reliable heater. I have other heaters but I wanted one that was small (50w). The controller is $90, so it's not that big of a deal, and if I upgrade down the road, that's one less thing to buy.

BTW, where can I find a heater for $10?

I believe these are considered to be the best heaters on the market by quite a few experience reef keepers...and are $15+shipping.

You shouldn't be paying much more than $20 for a 50W heater. Most of the stores around where I live charge $10-$12 for a decent one.

I couldn't find a heater, PERIOD, around me for less than $18.
