Hi,

I still have a relatively new 110. One thing I want very much is a tank that "glows" under actinics only. I've seen lots of actinic closeups of corals, but I want it to look good (glowing) from 5 ft. away or more - I really have no desire to have them look good under a macro lense.

Anyone have good shots of their tanks from a few ft. away under actinics only? Also, I'd love to know what some of the brighter corals you can see are.

I might get some monti caps, but other than that most things will be softies and LPS. If I find the right SPS I would still get them, but that's not my focus at the moment.

Thanks :)

WOW! Laz - that's come crazy stuff! nice tanks. All of these are really nice. Sorry I'm such a noob at this.

Aqua - are those photoshopped at all? Do reds light up like that? Those are awesome!!!!!!!!!! What are those two reds? A lobo and a chalice of some sort? Thx.

More please :D

I don't have photoshop ~ just white balanced the camera beforehand. The only thing is my orange zoos did not show up too well. The chalice and lobo are the most vivid red colored corals I have ever seen. There are more pics of them in my gallery.

Hey Aquabucket, I've seen your tank in several threads now with full lights and now actinics only. I'm getting sick of seeing it because it looks so darn awesome!!! Very nice work, by the way. Just curious what combination of T5 lights you are running?

Thanks! Right now I am running 1 - GE 6500K, 1 - ATI Aquablue Special, 1- ATI Blue Plus and 1- UVL Superactinic. Each 39 watt bulb is overdriven to 64 watts.

I'm running 3-39w overdriven (IC 660) - Gman 6500K, Gman Actinic Plus, ATI Aquablue special and 2-24w bulbs (not overdriven) UVL Superactinic and ATI Blue Plus. Maybe I need to consider overdriving my 2 24w bulbs. I'll try to get an actinic/blue tank shot tonight. I'm assuming you are running a blue plus and superactinic for that picture?

Your coral husbandry must just be outstanding because they look great.

sweet aqua! I have 6 T-5's and 10 bulbs...you have been blessed with helping me decide on the bulbs to use :)

bullet---laz just showed up on our local forums and blew us away---many tanks jammed FULL of awesome corals! Almost finally persuaded to go to the SPS world, but I'm not there yet! Not any room for anything else! tho I'm sure he'll find some http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1147923

More actinic shots please

I recommend overdriving T5s whenever possible. Just make sure you have adequate cooling because the bulbs will run hotter and cooling them down will make the run more efficiently and last longer. You are correct the pics were taken under those 2 bulbs.

Quality bulbs make a difference. Another bulb you might want to try is the UVL Aquasuns. I have one over a tank at work and like the way it brings out reds and pinks. They are a good high PAR daylight bulb to try in a 6 bulb set-up.
