I have a pumping xenia and it was fine Friday, but now it has shrunk done to almost nothing. It was trying attach to another piece of rock but kept getting pulled off by big snails moving around. Could that have killed it and is it dead now. It's just a ring on the rock now. All my water levels are fine.

Thanks John

MAybe but with that little bit xenia can come back, FYI I have found Xenia like good back and forth current, Iodine add to the tank, and a good high Alk like 3.5-4 and KH of about 12-13?

Good luck!

Could you post some parameters? Maybe there is something out of wack. IME xenia have been hit or miss. I tried several frags that wasted away only to come back after I bought a rock with lots on it.

A picture would help.

I have killed my fair amount of pulsing xenia and this sounds dead to me. I found that buying xenia that is not attached to a decent sized rock is a bad plan. I bought some attached to a large rock and have had no problems with it. It is actually spreading now on the rock.

Pulsing xenia requires a higher light source to actually pulse, so make sure your lights are up to par for it.

Any chance you have copper in your tank? Is the tank one of your old freshwater tanks?

If you look in my photo gallery I have a pic, and yes this an old fresh tank. But this xenia has been doing fine for a month and all water values are fine.
Thanks John

this is called coral melting--xenia is famous for it--it can grow like a weed and then just all of a sudden start to die off--for no reason.
Just replace it---it'll grow real quick and is cheap
