So my 75 with a 29g sump has been up since mid- april. I see the other 75g 3-month old threads and the tanks look nothing like mine (aka clear) . I've been battling algea for a while now. I've had an algea bloom for about 2 weeks now as well as some hair algea that i've had for about 2 months. I have 3 small fish that I try to feed minimally (2 green chromis, and a clown). Ammonia, Nitrates and phosphates show up as 0. TDS is 115 in, .01 out. Skimmer is pumping out a solid amount of skimmate and I've been changing 9 gallons every week. I have some cheato but it doesn't seem to be flourishing. Only thing that I can think of causing this algae is that I orginally filled the tank with tap water.

Basically my question is when is my tank going to clear up? At what point do I figure that the algae is not new tank syndrome and try to fix the problem?

Any help would be sweet!

how many pounds of LR do you have? if not enough this may be part of the problem. what type of lights do you have and how old?

i had a simalar problem with blooms and had near perfect tests, water changes etc, couldnt figure it out until i added a turbo twist uv to my sump, and a day later and all was gone and hasnt been back since. :)

According to this calculator (http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/RODICalc.php) you still have 37% tap water in your tank. This could be the cause of the prolonged algae bloom.

What kind of water are you using, R.O./Tap. Also, do you have any power heads for water movement, that will play a major roll in controling certain algeas. You may have elevated levels of phosphates. A uv sterilizer does help, adding a phosban reactor may help tremendously.

I have 120 pounds of LR and about a 6" DSB of south pacific sand bed. As for lights a have 4- 54w T-5's and 2 250w HQI. What's a turbo twist uv?

As stated above I filled initially with tap but now have RO/DI that tests .01 TDS.

Oh and for flow I currently have 2 korilia 3's and an aqua clear 70. Sump is rated for 480gph. I was definantly think of adding tunze nano streams (remove the aqua clear) as soon as i get some cash.

Soccerman.. I set up my 72 gal tank on Apr 24, about the same time you did.. I did have a Turbo Twist UV stirilizer to help control the algae..maybe this will help

Maybe running a phosban reactor will help.

If you have zero nitrates and phosphates I would look at adding snails and hermits, the algae is feeding off material imbedded on your rocks.
