I was just at the LFS and they have a 4" Titan trigger for $59.99. I didnt buy it, but I thought that was a steal. That is the first time I've ever seen one in person. He is really a neat looking fish and I would love to get him, but I'm worried about mixing him with my 6" clown trigger. He was in the same tank with a larger Niger trigger and they seemed to get along nicely, but I think Nigers are less aggresive.

So, is that the steal of the century for a Titan, or that a pretty common price for them. He seems to be in really good health.

Thats a great deal considering the size of the fish and its availibility. With regards to the clown, you would have to have a big tank. My friend has 5 triggers in a 220 and its works pretty well for him. They include a 5" clown, 9" hawaiian, 6" blueline, 5" picasso and another 4" picasso.

I have a 180. I'm getting rid of the 2 damsels soon, so I would have the clown, titan and a lion. I do plan to get an eel in the future though.

The nice thing is, my brother just bought a 265. If I ever need to get rid of one, I'll just send him his way. ;)

I wouldn't advise keeping lionfish and triggers together. They are notorious for picking at the fins of lionfish until they kill them.

Yeah, the 2.5" titan I had turned a fuzzy dwarf into this:

Are you sure that these are titans (pseudobalistes viridescens) and not yellow margian triggers (Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus)? The juviniles are very, very similar and oftentimes yellow margians are sold/labeled as titans when in fact they are not.

I don't have any pics handy, but you can can google them to tell the difference.

As for the price, they seem to be available if you know a wholesaler who has collecters who will get them and then you can ask for one. After they get through laughing (had this happen to me once when I called about one for a customer, no joke), then they might find you one for $50-200 depending on the source and size. Most collectors just leave them in the ocean. The biggest issue that I hear is that they ship them larger than you wanted. Your 4" trigger could come in at 8-10 inches.

I see them often on a certain wholesaler's list as a different name for $8.85 for a small/medium. You have to request the one with the moustache as this one I had:

That is the pretty much like the one I just bought. If he is not a Titan, he is definitley a cool looking trigger. Of course, my 2 damsels from hell started picking on him, so I had to take them out. Like someone said in another thread, I had to remove every peice of rock and fake coral to get them. I put them into my quarentine tank for now. Its funny, when the damsels were messing with him, my clown did too, but now that the damsels are out, the clown is playing nicely. Go figure.

Here are a few pics I took of a monster titan in the wild. One of the only fish to approach me other than domino damsels.

There are some cool videos on the web with titans crushing up live rock for both dentistry and the worms that live inside of it.
