I have a 5.5 gallon saltwater tank with 4 lbs. of live rock. It has been running for a little over a month and I have a cloudy scum on the water surface. Can anyone give me advice on how to get rid of this cloudy water surface?

Circulation via powerheads and surface skimming via an overflow.

You could get a surface skimmer attachment for your power filter...i believe Drs F&S have them for like $10.

I am using a Rio 180 (120 GPH). I am using the live rock as my biological filter and do not have an external filter.

For now, point a powerhead up to flow across the surface of your tank.

I have a powerhead pointed at the surface...but it only clears up the film exactly where the main surface break is.

Try more water changes. But i have noticed that on alot of Nanos that don't have surface skimmers or any type of overflow they all always have a film on top on their water, I don't believe that theirs really nothing you can do to prevent that other then what people are suggesting.
(Get a surface skimmer or make an overflow)!

I'm planning on getting an AC70, modding it into a fuge, and adding a surface skimmer attachment...I think that'll take care of it nicely, plus I'll be able to run carbon/phosban and stuff.
