Upgrading to a 72gallon bowfront ocean tank!!! Not sure on what to do with the substrate. On my first tank I used some play sand..... Not knowing any beter...... I've always had a small problem with algea wanting to grow on top of the sand. I think it has something to do with the sand. I know there are little tiny pieces of metal in the sand because they get stuck to the magnet .................. What should I do with the new setup??????????? SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!!

If you like sand, then get Aragonite Sand. If not, then you can always go bare bottom.

If you get a sand sifter such as a conch, then it will stir up your bottom and keep the brown from getting too brown.

The problem with iron in your sand is that promotes algae growth. Lots of threads on using silica sand vrs. aragonite, I won't go there.

Get a good quality dry aragonite sand. Caribsea makes good products. ;)
