what 70w bulb are you running?

i am currently running 14k Astralux 70w. i know selection is somewhat limited for a 70w. what are you running? what's your experience?

Same as you, a 14K Astralux. Its OK, wish it was slightly more blue.

I got that viper 70w 14k running on my tank and although I read that the par sucks my corals seem to love it. Its a great color too, perfect balance of whit and blue IMO. I would however reccomend the 70w for a very small tank maybe 1-10g as in my 18 I dont think it gives off enough for the spread.

yes i agree it's a pretty good balance of blue and white. what brand of bulb does the viper come with? for a 14k, i am only aware of either the phoenix or the astralux.

Its really not that blue at all, its probably like your 14k bulb, I like it though, nice shimmer, very crisp.

Hell, it was $7.99 plus shipping, I ordered a 10k bulb too but I havent fired it, I had a stock 14k which paid its dues, LOL

I like the ebay bulbs, they seem to work good, I replace em every 4-6 months as the price makes it easy to do...

I have Ushio 14000k and Astralux 14000k

The Ushio was a crisp ice white with a hint of blue.
Astralux is much more blue then the Ushio and when my Actinics come on you can barely tell it came on unlike with the Ushio.

I like both and growth seems to be about the same.

I gotta say, I'm pretty happy with it, I have the 70watt sunpod over my aqua pod 24, I do see nice growth, my pink birds next has AWESOME polyps extensions, orange cap has large polyp extension as well, Kenya trees are growing, mushroms are growing as well, great deal for the $$$ IMO...

I'm using a 70 W MH on my 24 G, I think it isn't enough for SPS. I'll upgrade to 150 W.

Do you think the same?

i don't get some of the prices.
it says $7 and $7 shipping.
then i see 2 for $25 and $4 shipping.
think you'd be better deal buying 2 at a time but buying 2 single ones you can get it for $1 cheaper.
am i missing something?

The 70 watters do work in the sunpod, I've had mine going for a week now, love it !

you'r better off buying two single yes, :)

sometimes people rather not wait for 2 auctions and just do the one and know they got two bulbs I guess...

My bulbs came to me shipped directly from hong kong, they come wrapped in bubble wrap inside a rubbermaid container !!!
Pretty smart for a long haul !!

I personally don't think 70w is enough for SPS....I have a few BB/blue tips, etc that didn't fair too well right under the 70w and I even have some zoas that are stretching to the light.
