View Full Version : help transferring mushroom

I have a mushroom growing on top of a shell. I would like to transfer it to the top of a piece of rock. What would be the best way to do this without killing the mushroom. Thanks for the advice.

What kind of shell? Depending on what kind it is you could cut up or smash the shell and then use super glue gel to glue the piece the mushroom is holding onto to the rock where yo want it.

it's growing on a hard oyster shell. I dont think it's possible to crush it. Is it safe to remove it by a razor blade?

Yes, even though I'm pretty new to this stuff, I've done it several times successfully. The first time is the scariest. After you cut it off, you can either hold it in its new place with a loose rubberband or with netting. I prefer netting because if you get the rubberband too tight it might slice through the mushroom or too loose and it might float away. I've also put rubble in a shallow dish, put the mushroom on top of the rubble and then put netting over the dish so crabs and shrimp can't get to it.

Good luck! I posted a couple of pictures of one I just cut off in this thread if you want to see them. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1162387

The mushroom is already attached this morning less than 24 hours after cutting it loose, but I'm going to leave the netting on it for at least another day just to make sure. The Ricordia had a pice of rock still attached to the foot so I glued it down to the new rock.

I'd say just take a hammer and chisle and bust up the shell.

take some pliers and crush the shell around and leave a little bit of shell under the foot of the shroom and glue it to the rock.

So, did you do it and what were the results?
