I found this link in the reef central DIY thread.

SNailmans Skimmer 101 (http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm)

Basically this guy talks about how you only want slow flow through your skimmer because some nutrients need a large amount of residence time in the reaction chamber to bond to the bubbles and that the only way to achieve tis slow flow rate is an air driven skimmer and in particular a counter current skimmer. This is because venturi and beckett style injection systems require large amounts of flow to create the bubbles. The points he makes and his whole theory sounds quite plausable to me and i was wondering what other peoples opinions on this are?

whether a different style of skimmer is better and why?

I am a noob at large tanks as i only have a 6g nano so i have never had to use a protein skimmer as of yet and i also figured that if the statements he makes are correct i might be able to save a couple of bucks on a skimmer. Any opinions are appreciated and thanks in advance.
