how do you figure out what size recirc pump

i want to build a couple recirc skimmers but i am unsure on what size recirc pump to use. is there a formula or a rule of thumb?

there is really no formula. what size reaction chamber are you going to have? this will help determine a good pump.

6" diameter 16" tall reaction chamber. 2" neck. 24" total hight

octo 2000, ocean runner 1700, quiet one 2000 or an eheim 1250 or 1260 would work well on that size for a recirc.

the octo 2000 and the OR1700 are both NW out of the box.

A 2" neck is REALLY narrow. At only 6" tall, you're going to have a hard time using anything that gives you more than about 15 scfh.
