Been waiting for a long time for LA to post another red stag to the Diver's Den. I have high hopes for it. Does anyone have one that has grown up a bit?

Funny you should say that. I'm actually red-green deficient, like a large number of males.

My guess is abro too.

just keep in mind that these corals are actually a low light coral, if given too much light it will turn green.

Oh man, you just had to say that! The description on the site said that it requires intense light to keep it's red color.

LOL

yeah until you put high up on your water colum and you will see what color it switches.

I thought these red abrotanoides need very strong intense light to keep its colouration??

If I was red/green colorblind, I don't think I'd buy a high end red stag, I'd just get a green slimer and pretend it's red

Which would be great until you try selling someone a red frag for $40 an inch and you can't figure out why no one is buying. :)

I would too, but I'm not colorblind.

Anyone else could enlighten? Had some in the LFS some time ago but no one touched them as they turn brown soon ( from past experience)... we assumed that they require very high lights...

This has happened to my red a. selago. Since I moved it high up it has turned a bright green in some areas.

mine was at the bottom of my tank under 250 XM 10k and it turned green, so i had to place it under a large stag to shade it a little and it changed back to red.

Interesting...no one mentioned this in the abro thread.... I think DaddyJax has a red one...maybe he'll chime in.

I have a millie (I think) that was turning pink and when I moved it up top it started turning green... interesting I've never heard of that before.

Should I move my milli back down low?

I have a rose mille that turns bright green when I move it DOWN. Go figure! Maybe they just turn green whenever they feel like it!

Is it me or are these abrotanoides corals popping up all over the place recently? Never saw anything thick like it before, and then wammo popped up all over... in fact I bought a frag.. one I paid way too much money for *sigh*

Kind of agree and disagree with Julio on this one. I got mine from Keeperz. Came in nice and red, browned out in my lower light frag tank no matter where I placed it. Once in the display I slowly worked it to the top where it is now. Currently shows more red than it has since I got it, but also some green.

I called Eric @ ********** for placement advice and suggested high as well. Same scenario with the Red Robin stag. Both are placed in the top 8" directly under 400 watt 20k. So are we more confused yet?

I just got an Abro from RM, its the red w/green tips, I placed it midway up in the tank below a 1000 w MH. It's been there for a week, I'll snap a pic after a few weeks and let you guys know what an abro thinks of 1K watts! That should be a good test!

Hey RobTheReefer, I remember that one when it was up for sale. I went for the austera, placed my order and then got a call from them telling me it had "problems" and could not ship it out because it might not make it. I have wait years for a red austera, only to be let down once again. Anywho here is what it looked like.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/78006Want-med.jpg

I can't agree more with you. When I first got it, it was slightly bleach white, with hints of pinks. I though hihg light too and this was what it looks like directly under 9 inches of 250W 10000k like 3 months after acquisition. Now some end portions are burnt because I changed to a new bulb and didn't light acclimatize it.

So to me... it'll be low to moderate lighting and good flow.

Nice anyhow. Good flow might be an issue though. I just blew half the tissue off of my favorite blue-tipped stag with my Tunze 6100 ( from 3 FEET AWAY! )

I knew I shouldn't have done the shroud mod on it. LOL

Ah man, what a bummer. :( Will they call you if it recovers and they feel comfortable sending it?

I also picked up the blue polyp nasuta. The tip broke off in transit. But that's okay, now I have two. :)

Here's a shot of my green one....still settling in, so no new pink tip growth yet...

One could only hope they do. I have a gut feeling some walk-in had seen it and liberated it before it took a turn for the worse:(

Could possibly be Acropora Abrotanoides (http://www.zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1398). I have seen it range in color from violet with yellow tips to almost white with rust colored polyps. good luck and give us a pic when you get it.

I have noticed the Red Abro like decent light while the green and pink tip like lower light.
Here is my Red Abro after 1 1/2years and close to the top
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/DaddyJax/IMG_5589.jpg

And here is my pink tip after 6 months near the bottom under 20k

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/DaddyJax/IMG_5478.jpg

The thing I have also noticed with them both is good indirect flow.
My Red has grown much faster than the Green/Pink.
