I changed all of my prefilters and switched from a 100GPD membrane to a 75 GPD. No water is coming from the waste side and the clean side is coming out very fast, It looks like everything is hooked up right I dont know what to do.

I might have had the tubes on the membrane housing backwards, another question the elbow on the membrane housing that flows towards the DI has a stainless steel spacer with a spring in it what is it and should I remove it?

Are you saying you have the flow corrected now? The fitting is a check valve to activate your auto shutoff valve and causes no problem even if you do not use the auto shutoff valve or have one on your system. We put them as a standard item when we build all systems.

Its working great now, I took the check valve off because the metal looked discolored, I looked at some pictures of other systems and the check valves look to be plastic, If I ever use the auto shut valve I will just order a new check valve.

1 more question. I have a 10 inch DI housing that was originally horizontal, the caps on each end are identical. Right now I have it vertical with the water going in the top and coming out the bottom. Would it be better to convert to the style with the refillable cartridge?

The elbow check valves are stainless steel and may discolor. On your current DI housing the water should enter from the bottom if your running it vertical and the resin should be tight not loose. A full sized vertical housing is much better has three times the capacity and less chance of channeling.

it is full sized, its the same size as the other housings for the prefilters and holds a whole refill,I have it packed in tight . Ill switch it to enter from the bottom and come out the top

Usually the horizontals with end caps at both ends only hold a little over a cup of resin and the full sized verticals hold 3 plus cups of resin.

yes, I know exactly what you mean. I have never seen another one like the kind I have, but I did just fill it today with the 12 dollar refill for the 10 inch housing, would it be of any benefit to switch to the cartridge kind or was volume the only issue?

If you run it from the bottom to the top I think your OK when properly packed they work alright.
