I installed my first UV on my new 72 gallon FOWLR. I don't even have the heater running and I can't keep the water below 85 degrees. My reef in the same room is at 80. The only thing I can think of is the UV light. I have the gamma 25 watt. Could this be? No chance of getting a chiller.

Did you try unplugging it and see if the temp drops?

I guess I could add, I only run a 15w on my 75 so I didn't notice anything but maybe the 25's are warmer.

I know you're not supposed to run them when dry, the water keeps them cool, they they should add some heat, but I don't know about 5 degrees that seems excessive.

Honestly, its only 25w. It can't really add any more heat than a maxijet 1200.

What else you running for pumps, etc.

I have a turbotwist 18 on my tank and I have never had a problem with the UV unit creating heat - and your room temp is at 80? that seems pretty warm to me. The only problem with heat that i have is due to the pumps and the halides... (3-250w)

turbotwist 36w. Never noticed a problem. But then again I have a lot of gallons.

I haven't even turned my lights on yet-besides it's only 100 watts of t5. I don't know what the room temp is but it's cool because it's the basement. The return is a Quiet One 6000. No other pumps running???
