Im getting a new camera in a couple of weeks and i was looking at this one. Is the lens that comes with this camera any good? And you would recommend getting a kit or just piecing it out. also, can you recommend a good macro lens?

Thanks so much.

First it is good to know that Canon has a minimum price policy. (I have heard). That means that authorized distributors cannot sell Canon's products below a certain price. So if you find a "really" good deal, its a scam. Therefore, finding the Canon camera you want at a reputable company will always yield the same appoximate price. B&H has one of the best reputations among photographers. So you can be safe in assuming it is as good of a deal in a new camera as you are likely to find. There may be better but it will only be a few dollars.

As for the camera itself. Excellent entry level dslr. 10 mp with a self cleaning sensor. Very nice.

The lens in not the best. You won't be able to see this right away because you won't have a reference to compare and it probably beats any point and shoot hands down. So for $70 it might not be that bad just starting out. Just be aware that the really good lenses are going to run you $250 and up. And I mean way up. A 400mm f2.8L costs $6000.

My lens kit recommendation is to have 4 lens. Wide angle to short zoom, medium to long zoom, long prime and a macro.
