TONMO reports that some divers and importers consider it a common and relatively safe thing to do.

Considering that only 3 or 4 people have been confirmed to die from Bluering bite I would immagine that they might be a bit reluctant to do it. Doesn't make this guy much smarter though. He was probly the 3rd or 4th :D

This is something I would suggest people not do. I believe he most likely got lucky. Everybody has there day. And better safe than sorry. Nice pic though.

Makes me think about that magician that got bite by a tiger. Just cause it didn't bite this time doesn't mean it won't :)

When the blue rings flare up doesnt that mean it feels threatened?

I think it is Photoshoped. Do you ever seen an octopus on something with his arm not wrap around it? None of the arm of the Bluering even slightly wrap the fingers.

Yeah and the fact that the tentacles are more out of focus than the fingers at the same depth of field give a clue that it's faked.

Unless the arms (not tentacles :D ) were in motion.

The other day I saw a youtube clip with some young kids playing with a bluering... at the end of the clip the bluering latched onto the kids arm... not sure what happens next.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLPXpluXnFE

EDIT: now that I look at it, it might not be a blue ring. it's kind of big.

Ok not to seem like a noob trying to be a know it all cause im not. I just have done a lot of Research on Octopus and In case people didn't know they are as smart if not far smarter than a Dog, can be tamed well and even trained to do tricks. It is very possible that the photo is one such Octopus, i will admit i know little about that type, i have just researched common Dwarfs.

#1: octos are very smart. but to a point. And they arent predictable or tameable like dogs. You can't put a muzzle on one and you can't train it not to bite.

#2: That didn't look like a bluering in the video, but it was hard to tell.
#3: this thread is ooooooold. Why hasn't it died yet?
