Hi:

I posted this on the equip forum, but don't think I am going to get much of an answer. Can someone recommend a good bulb combo for the solar flare? Also, would like to know how often it is necessary to change out the lights. Thanks.

DB,

Lamp choices for T5s is really a matter of personal preference. When your asking for a good bulb combo, what look are you trying to accomplish? More white, more blue? As for how often, I would say about every 16-20 months for most lamps but the UVLs will give you more like 18-24 months as they are designed to run on IceCap VHO ballasts.

Thank you,

Tom:

I know it's a matter of personal choice, but if you have never run T5's before and you have no base to go off you have to start somewhere.

If you are using a solar flare on a 90 gallon tank with mixed coral and you don't want it too white or too blue...what's a good starting arrangement.

Since the fixture lets you rune 2 - 6 (I think), a little advice on which bulbs go where would be helpful.

From looking at the many posts on lighting, etc...I think you guys would be well served to offer up some bulb configuration suggestions on your site. Would certainly help those just switching over to T5s or those getting in the hobby.

Many thanks!

Dan,

No problem. I can offer some suggestions. As for the having them on the website, that is something we are working on along with some other helpful tips.

Here's a suggestions for what you are looking for.

Front
1) UVL Actinic White or Aquaz Ocean Pro
2) Aquaz Blue Pro or UVL Super Actinic
3) UVL 75/25 14K
4) Sylvania 6500K or GE 6500K
5) Aquaz Blue Pro or UVL Super Actinic
6 UVL Actinic White or Aquaz Ocean Pro

Lamps 1, 3, 4, & 6 are on one switch and lamps 2 & 5 are on the second switch. As for the Blue Pro or Super Actinic most people go with one of each but really any combination is nice. All lamps listed above are 54W lamps. They will be overdriven on the Solar Flare to around 85W ea. This should give you the not too white and not too blue look you are looking for.

Thank you,

Tom
