Most of the algae in my sw tank is brown slime algae, not fuzzy. I'm supposing its diatoms (sp?) which is not good. I assume I have that because my tank is new and still cycling and because I had a very high wattage CF bulb of the yellow color spectrum over this tank until last tuesday. (P.S. Date of this post is saturday). I got rid of that bulb and replaced it with a coralife mimi-CF bulb 50/50 10 watts, on tuesday. I'm going to install another one in the hood soon, maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, the brown algae is not growing as much, but the green fuzzy algae I had growing from before, started growing a lot more with this new bulb.

Besides the green and brown algae I have little dots of red, blue, and purple on my LR. How do I know which algae is good and which is bad? How do I get rid of the bad stuff?

Try looking on Melev's site here, it is a very useful tool and worth a read. T
