Must the foam be siliconed in place? I am debating using "Great Stuff" foam as a partial background on my tank. I know in Sidewinders tank he just applied the Handifoam to the back. Some people are telling me to lay down a bead of silicone before spraying and some say it isn't necessary. Will Great Stuff detach and float off the back wall on a glass tank?

alot of cichlid tanks, make the foam board out of the tank carving rocks, and stuff, then filling in crevices adding texture and finishing the look with great stuff foam. Then they silicone in. Then you hvae to be carful about it detaching and floating. but if you just wanna use great stuff you can spray right on the back.
hope that helps

Click my lil red house. I made an 6'x2' background out of greatstuff and cement to coat it. It is nearly covered w/ corraline/algae already in just 3 months. I would not put it directly to glass, but it sticks to acrylic very well as long as you clean it w/ high proof alcohol first to remove impurities/dirt. you can scuff the acrylic to get a better hold too. Glue a sheet of acrlic to the back of a glass tank w/ silicone if you must.
