I just installed my PH probe for my aquacontroller jr and when i came home today after the lights have been on for several hrs it read 8.37. Is this to high has i know it should be between 8.00 and 8.20 or is it okay?

Did you calibrate it?

If that reading is right then, it's too high. You can try to do a water change.

yes i calibrated with 7 and 10 solution but only once. I did a 5% water change as i do weekly yesturday

is it really that high?

Water changes generally aren't useful for pH problems unless something's been overdosed into the tank. 8.37 is very good for pH. This article covers all the water parameters:
