When removing bioballs, how slowly should this process be done? I have a 29 gallon bio cube that's about 3 months old and I've been removing a few balls every coulpe of days. Would it be ok to just take them all out now? I'm wanting to use the back chamber for something else. Thanks.

I took mine all out at once, but I did add a double dose of a bacteria additive at the same time.

Hi
When you remove the bio balls, what are you using for your biological filtration? do you have live rock, if so how much

Barry, I have ~35lbs of live rock. I've been adding some LR rubble in the back compartment where the bio balls are and will probably add some more as I get the room. I'm debating on a running a skimmer in the center compartment and if I don't, I will add some chaeto and a light for it.

The additive is Cycle, here is the link to several of them:

Remove them slowly over the course of a couple weeks. There is mixed reviews about bacteria additives and their effectivenes. Just remove a handfull at a time to allow the bio filter to catch up. ;)

I Agree with Drummereef with the use of bacteria additives, the live rock will hold enough bacteria, IMO you dont need to add any more.

JC...www.premiumaquatics.com sells RR by the pound. they have many to choose from, but always remember Tonga branch is dense and wont be able to host as much bacteria as the more pourous Fiji or Kaelini. :D
