I'm building a 50 gal 48"x12"x16".

What about 2 Tunze 6100 for flow? Is it overkill?

Set up on a multi controler to make : Pump A 100%, pump B 50% for 5 minutes and then pump A 50%, pump B 100% for 5 minutes and so on. I don't know much about the Tunze pumps, I just know they are suppose to be the best!

I think you should go with the 6000s, not the 6100s. These pumps are very strong and will blow the flesh off of corals if they are pointed directly at them. You have to angle them to shoot across to the other side of the tank. I had two 6000s in my old 75 and now two in my 90. I think they are great, but the 6100s might be too much in such a confined space. You will probably also have a sandstorm.

Just a note:

NOBODY should buy Tunze 6100s. Buy the 6000s and the 6100 transformers. It'll cost you the same amount of $$, and you'll have a pair of spare transformers sitting around.
