I have an awesome looking Bloodshrimp that active, healthy, and really respective to most things in the tank.

This might be a dumb question, but he molts about every 2-3 weeks and I wanted to know if is a sign of good health or not? IS there such a thing as molting too much?

Again, he is acting perfectly fine and looks great, I just want to know for sure. His moltings make excellent fodder for the rest of the tank every now and again.

Thanks,

-David

Some additives, like trace elements, will induce excessive molting in shrimp. I think 2-3 weeks isn't unusual, though.

Fragman07: It`s not a dumb question. 2-3 weeks is a lot of molts. To much Iodine in the water will make your shrimp molt to much, and stress it out. Test your Iodine.

once every 2-3 weeks is pretty normal until it reaches its full size

also a change in Alk and pH can create a molt. when a shrimp molts it looses alot of vital minerals and vitamins. to much molt can kill a shrimp if theyre not provided proper dietary supplements.

the amont of water changes could be the source, if the parms are not the same as the tank. ;)

molting means that little guy is healthy, and growing like he;s supposed to. now too often could be a sign of something bad
