I made this stand for my 180. The size is 73 1/2 L X 24 1/2 D X 38" H. The upper is 2 x 6, the pole is 4x4 and the lower ones is 2x4.

looks pretty good. I wonder why your rear columns go to the floor and your front columns rest on the bottom framing? I would probably add a sheet of plywood to the back to give some additional shear strength. You may want to do the sides as well. I would at least do the back though. Your main concern should be racking. The weight of the tank will be distributed to the corners and then the floor. The stand will support the weight no problem; however it may want to rack (lean to one side or the other and collapse) I would add the plywood to prevent that. You could also attach it to a wall stud after its level.

Looks VERY good and sturdy indeed!! You could probably park a tank on it without any issue! LOL Can't wait to see this baby completed.

I would add additional 2x4 braces on the bottom like you did the top. Most likely your sump won't touch the 2x4s as it will be smaller and the plywood will warp over time. With an additional 2x4 brace on each side it will help disperse the weight of the sump.

The front and back colums rest in the floor and in the colum. I made, I don't know how to said in english, muescas (in spanish) to rest the colums in the floor and in the colums. I also going to add a sheet of blaybwood in both sides and in the front. This is only the beggining, thanks for your sugestions.

I going to put a sheet of playwood of 3/4 in the upper of the stand and inside of the stand too.

I see now that you have notched the columns to rest on both the floor and the brace. Looks great.

I was searching for some sort of waterproof paint when I did my stand but wasnt able to find anything except like waterproofing (for masonry) I ended up using a high gloss latex paint and then using a polyeurothane sealer. Looking good.

Good Luck

I used Behr exterior acrylic enamel satin paint. I didn't want a glossy shine inside the stand. Its holding up great. The salt creep stays on top of the paint and I can wipe it right off.

Hi Albert,

I would recommend you to put formica inside as well (floor and walls). Plus, silicone at the bottom this will help you to make that area "waterproof".

Good job!

I used kilz (http://www.kilz.com/) to seal my stand. Either that or marine grade epoxy.

I used swimming pool paint to seal up the inside and i'm going to drill a hole down at the bottom so it will drain if i get a leak somewere.

I removed the Formica and paint with this effect which I like it more than the Formica.

Just wanted to let you know that swimming pool paint has chlorine it it. And it will leach, should not matter. But didnt want anyone to see this and paint their wood wall tank or anything! If you look on the can its chlorinated rubberized paint I think. I only know this b/c when I worked at a pool store we could not switch people over to a non- chlorine stanitizer if they had a painted pool.
