hey guys, i am going to be buying a 20 gallon long soon for a prop. tank/pair of pipefish and am wondering on what lighting system i should use for it. i would like mh's, maybe t5's with individual reflectors. anyone that has a 20L post your lighting setup please. any recommendations?

i dont wanna spend too much either, im only 16. right now on my 20 reef i have a 150w JBJ viper k2 that i will tryout on the new 20L when i get it. but i don't think it will span light 30", but i'll try

20 Long = 30x12x12

To get spread you could either stagger 3-4 24w T5s or do 2 70w halides with 1-2 T5s for supplementation. I think either one would give you excellent growth.

is there a system aready out there that has 2 70w MH's with 2 t5's. i was thinking of doing 2 JBJ Viper K2 70w MH's, its a shallow tank so i think that should work.

I think that would work fine too. I assume you don't have a canopy, then... retrofitting would give you a better setup and probably be cheaper, but if you can't get a canopy, then the Vipers would be fine.

Either would work. T5s would be plenty for that tank w/o overheating but... you wont get that nice shimmer like halides. T5's will be cheaper in the long run as well. Good Luck!
