I am thinking about putting some cinderblock inside my 100 gallon rubbermaid. Im thinking this will be good surface area for bacteria to grow on, should i worry about any thing leaching out?

I would use only LR and not cinder block.

You could get a lot of base rock instead.

cinderblock is USUALLY fine (no I'm not going to use one either :D)
I have more of a question about wanting bacteria in the sump. Why?

If I were you I would cure it like you would with DIY rock. I put a cinder block in my pond (100's of gallons) to hold up a potted plant and woooo hooo did the PH spike.

well, i dont really need the live rock, i have over 300 lbs of it. I need some somthing to put some equipment on, i have other ideas like pvc racks, i was thinking that cinderblock would be a easy soultion.
The bacteria i speak of is the benifical type, i dont think i could have to much :)

Ive used them in large sumps before with no ill effects.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if someone in a coastal area could buy a nice amount and cure them, then sell 'em off for a decent (oops, I mean tank funding ;)) profit...http://xs215.xs.to/xs215/07200/thinking.gif

i think i will give it a whirl. First i will cure it out with live rock for a month then dunk it in the sump.
thanks for all the informative posts.
