I feed this to my puffer, cheapest fish food out there. 6.99 a pound. Does anybody else feed their fish this?

I used to feed this and silversides to my lionfish. I eventually went to all silversides because I was worried about any chemicals they may have used to preserve the shrimp in the package.

I doubt that this concern was valid, but switched anyway.

Not good at all. Never feed cooked anything to your fish. They do not digest it well. Their bodies are not designed to eat cooked foods. Just get raw shrimp with nothing else in it. Freeze it before feeding and then thaw out.

Really? I know other puffers who are huge and healthy and raised off of it? is there any tiny cocktail shrimp that isnt cooked?

Im surprised. How long have they been eating this? I do not know the exact science behind it but my brother studied marine biology at university and has explained it to me before. It has to do with cooking food being a preservative and the fish having a hard time breaking it down inside their stomachs, eventually shortening their life.

I also just would personally not do it because it is not natural. Puffers never eat cooked food in the wild.

well my puffer prefers gourmet filet mignon, medium rare, with teriaki sauce, as well as perfectly seasoned lobster tail. doesnt yours? :) jk

Well, first off, cooked food probably contains something, like seasoning. I wouldn't do it...... and why take the chance if you don't have to....... I feed scallops that I buy frozen at wallmart. I think its like 5 bucks for a 1 pound bag. The have shrimp too, but its a bit more expensive. Occasionally I will get shell on muscles, its fun to watch them eat those.

Cooking the seafood actually removes some of the nutirient value.

That is the only problem I know of with using cooked seafood, assuming of course it hasn't had seasonings added to it. I've heard of or seen evidence of digestion problems from cooked seafood. The only preservative effect cooking has, is heat sterilization.

Raw shrimp has always worked for me, if they are cooked it basically has no value to it.

The shrimp always goes on sale. An alternative is going to your local asian mart and bagging it yourself. I usually get about 2 lbs. of 3-4" size shrimp for about $6. Same with squid.

I cut it in half for my eel. For the fish, I grind it in the blender along with squid, and scallops. They go nuts for it.

Well I don't know what's wrong with your guy's shrimp prices but mine aren't too bad. It's actually pretty cheap. about 5 bucks for 60-80 large shrimp at walmart. lasts me months at a time :).
