my lfs said i should be at 1.021 for my reef tank. is there some reason he told my so low, b/c everything i've read said 1.023 is the low mark. any thought on this?

It's best to keep your SG at 1.025-1.026. Reef or not.

I do not know why but most lfs keep their holding tanks at 1.021.

One reason a lfs would keep their SG lower would be to save on some salt. Adds up for them in a long run.

I recommend keeping yours between 1.023 and 1.024. You will sometimes want to run hyposalinity in a hospital tank but that is very low..around 1.009

Some people mistakenly believe that keeping the SG at those levels helps prevent disease.
