I am bringing my reef tank back to my bed room. I would like to solve a lot of my flow issues by getting the vortech pump with wave controller(when it finally comes out). How much noise do these pumps create in terms of dB. Are we talking 25 or less? Can you even hear them. Is there a hum/whine/rattle/buzz? (I'm in my mid twenties and can hear a moth fart from across the room) So please be discerning when judging this product.
Thanks!

Having a reef tank in your bedroom is a bold move. It would personally drive me crazy even though the Vortech is one of the quietest pumps I've ever used, they are not silent.

sounds like the water pipe moving water inside the wall. Or like someone taking a shower in the back room. lol

At first they appear quite noisy. However, after a few days they seem to quiet down to a low hum.

mine sound like a dusty computer fan when i have everything else turned off (skimmer, return,...). normally i can't hear anything, it fades into the rest of the white noise. though i wonder if the ramping up and down will be more noticeable once on a controller.

I can't really hear either of mine over the overflow noise, skimmer pump and return pump. None of those things are deafening, but I can hear them. If I turn all of them off, then I can faintly hear the two Vortechs. I think reef tanks in general are a bit noisy for the bedroom, but not really due to Vortechs.

I'm putting a 125 in my bedroom with two Vortechs.

they are not silent, but when properly aligned and broken in, they are better than most pumps I have ever heard.

they do seem to make more noise than the tunze but they also operate outside the tank....

I have 2, 1 is pretty quite and I can hardly hear it unless I'm within 2'. The other one I can hear from 10' away. Go figure.

they are louder than the tunze they replaced but overall the quietest of all my water moving equipment.

I made a detailed description of the pros and cons in one of the Vortech threads. No time to do it again, but you could probably search for it.

Also just review all the threads in this forum. It will give an accurate description of the pumps performance from all the current users. You will note how many other circulation systems are being scrapped for this pump. That tells a lot about the satisfaction of current VorTech owners and the pumps overall success.

Anyone else have enough vibration from their Vortech that it pulls the pad holding the cord to the tank loose? Happened to me twice. The noise wasn't that bad although the Korillia I am using now is quieter.

I just abandoned the sticky pads early on and drilled my euro-brace for zip ties. I don't think it has anything to do with vibration. The issue is probably related to the fact that acrylic is naturally oily and it's touch to get anything to stick to it.
