I'm looking for a return pump, something between a Mag 12 and Mag 18. I read that Little Giants, like this one (http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem-SearchStr--action-view-idProduct-LG2143-idCategory-FIWPEPZT-category-Little_Giant___4_MDQ_SC_Inline_Pump_Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies_Water_Pumps_External_0_1000_GPH-vendor--tab-1.html) are fully submersible? I have a rubbermaid sump, so I'd like to avoid an external and the LG looks like the best of both worlds? Would anyone run one submersed in a SW tank? If it won't work, any opinions on the Quiet One 5000?

That's the first I've seen that Little Giant pumps are submersible. I believe that to be a misprint. Or, at the very least a very misleading description of the 4-mdq-sc.
little giant (http://www.lgpc.com/index.aspx)

And, sorry, I have no opinions on the Quiet One 5000.

Well- that certainly is a misleading website, the company history is interesting at least. However, in the product field it does list them as inline pumps.

EDIT: http://www.lgpc.com/Product/ItemDetail.aspx?ProductID=10

Little Giant website lists these as inline only, though they do also have submersible aquarium pumps.

those LG pumps aren't submersible.
inline doesn't mean submersible.

Most LG pumps are fan cooled and require periodic lubrication (SAE20)

Whoops, apparently I should have proof read my reply.

The little giant pumps linked to by the original poster ARE NOT SUBMERSIBLE.

However, little giant apparently does also make submersible pumps that are cube shaped, in addition to the ones linked too, that are on their website under aquarium pumps.

INLINE= NOT SUBMERSIBLE

Sorry for any confusion,

Ben

Thanks everyone, that clears it up. I probably went to 20 website, all with the identical company history. Guess I read too far into it, at least I wasn't the only one ;). Any opinions on the QO 5000?
