View Full Version : baffles in sump/refugium

i just bought a 30 gallon tank that im going to be turning into my sump/refugium....i just wanna know how tall should i make each baffle the tank is 16 in tall i was thinking anywhere from 10 to 12 but i would like some suggestions from the more experienced

the higher the baffle, the less water you can hold without overflowing the sump incase of a power outage.
that is unless you have inline check valves, which in most cases reduce flow.
also, place your overflow box or U tube close to/just under the surface, as not to syphon enough to create an overflow. :)

The baffles should be half the height of the sump. Water should run just above the baffle. You need the extra space in case you lose power.
