Did some DIY rocks and have had them in a tub for a while changing out the water every once in a while. The PH on read 8.8 and I was curious if it is safe to add this to a tank that has NO life forms in it at the moment. Thanks everyone.

That pH is a bit high. I'd wait until you get it down to 8.5 or so, but then again, if its going in to a sterile tank, it shouldn't matter. You'll still need to do water changes - i'd guess it is easier to do the changes from the tub then from the tank.

So if there were creatures in the tank would they die from having a more alkaline PH? I thought only the acidity was what really hurt. I obviously have no clue so... ;) Thanks for the heads up i'll keep doing changes while they are in the tub.

Couldn't tell you for sure, but I believe above 8.6 it might be detrimental. Try asking this in the chemistry forum.
