Adjusting skimmer

How do I know if my skimmer is adjusted correctly? My skimmer is a D.A. needlewheel skimmer. It has a water supply adjustment valve and an air supply adjustment valve. Thanks in advance for any help.

If it produces skimmate, it's working. If the skimmate is too light, you may want to slow it down in water flow while increasing aeration to get more froth held for a longer time.

If neither of the above work well, try inserting a valve in the feed from pump to skimmer so you have a 3rd adjustment.
