My neighbor just bought a 46g bowfront. A sump is not an option right now. What HOB skimmer do you recommend that will do a good job without breaking the bank. She will have some liverock and has a penguin HOB filter as well.

How much is too much? I've heard good things about the proclear 75 skimmer. It comes in 2 versions, the hang on will probably be about 25$ more than the in sump version. So I think it would probably run (and I am just guestimating here. My LFS sells it for 155$ ) 100-125$

Tunze Nano Doc Skimmer - $135.72 - http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=T9002.000&Category_Code=Tunze3843

Its and in tank skimmer but they work well from what ive heard on here - its rated for up to 52 to gallons with normal stocking, with heavy stocking just 26 gallons

Or maybe the tunze 9005.00 Doc Skimmer - $255.00 - http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=T9005.00&Category_Code=Tunze3843

Also an intank skimmer - rated for 132g - most all tunze skimmers are good

Oddysea skimmer is rather cheap on ebay and I use that myself.

I recommend the Deltec MCE300 but it's going to cost you about $300. A little finicky, but does an awesome job. I think it's rated for 90G for normal stocking and 50G for heavy.

$300 is about double what she is looking to pay. The tank will probably have 3-4 smaller fish and low light corals in it.

for HOB skimmers I really like my PRIZM skimmer. Its affordable and works as well as the $220+ units. Now that I say that I will need to put on my Flame Retardant Vest...

I have heard others say the prizm is good, but I guess it is like the remora, some love it, some hate it. I have a prizm I ordered that I plan to put on a nano, so I hope I have good luck with it too.

I had the prizm, UPGRADED to the Seaclone. With a minor mod (air valve) the Seaclone pulls a lot of garbage. Plus, it's like $99 new.
