Hey guys/girls

I'm looking for a pump to power my 150gal tank with 40gal sump
I've read that red dragon are good(guiet and efficient) but what would you guys suggest? I'm looking to have sps and calms so I need strong/dependable flow. and I prefer one that runs out of the water to cut down on heating the tank. thanks!

target 3-5x your tanks volume per hour for your return pump from your sump. I think the oceanrunner 3500 or the eheim 1262 would both be perfect pumps and both can be run external. They are both quiet and energy efficient as well. The rest of your flow should come from either a closed loop or powerheads. Also remember you do lose some flow through plumbing.

Match the flow through your sump to the efficiency of the skimmer. 3 - 5x sump turnover is one of those rules of thumb - may or may not be appropriate for you. I also have heard good things about Red Dragon. I personnally run a Pan World 50x-x and I have been very pleased with its pereformance.
