I had my QT tank set up a while back for the first time. The ammonia got out of hand despite water changes and cleaning of detritus regularly. I got a filter with the 10 gal. tank that I used. I think it is a Whisper filter. I'm wondering, does anyone use a Bio-Wheel filter for the QT tank? If not, what do you use. I've heard that sponge filters work, but are they easy to use? How do you use them?

I use an Aquaclear 150 or mini. I keep new sponges in my sump at all times so they are charged with bacteria and ready to go. Once I am done with it I throw the sponge away so there is no chance of passing diseases on.

that's what I do as well. IMO sponges are better than the filterpad inserts with carbon. The bio wheel can be used in the same fasion seed them by simply placing them in your sump for at least a few weeks prior to use.

Thanks for the replies. I'm ready for new fish and want it to be easier this time. After looking at some info, I like the looks that one is better than the one I have.
