Good Day everyone... I need some skimmer advise.. I currently run a remora c skimmer and its not skimming anything at all.. I have been researching and looks like Tunze 9005 will fit my need.. Can someone give me some advise on that skimmer? are they good and reliable? I do want it to be place in the sump but my sump has limited spaces...

thank you very much

I just changed out a Recirculating octopus skimmer with a Tunze 9010 and so far I am impressed. If you get 9005 for in sump you need to add on a kit for that. I think Marine depot has a pretty good explanation of when you need to add the kit. They do have a pretty small footprint. Like 5 1/2 by 4" or so.

Thx for the quick response Grim Reefer.. Did you use your in the sump? do they just sit in the sump or can it be hang? I do see that a kit is available, but is that necessary?

I have a 9010 as well and it comes with all of the hardware to run it in the sump or in the tank. I replaced an ASM G2 with it and the Tunze is MUCH better.

If you are using the Tunze in-sump I would recomend the 9010 as it has the sump kit is included. With the 9005 you have to purchase the sump kit seperately, so for just a few dollars more you have a more powerful skimmer.

i have the 9010 on a 50 gallon tank and love it.:D

Will the tunze 9010 too much for my 72 gal tank? I think the size are the same as 9005 but just 2 inches taller...? I see Topbloke 72 use in on a 50 gal tank...thats impressive

I would get the 9010 as well, a better unit and with the sump kit included not that much more expensive.

Definitely get the 9010, well worth the extra few bucks. Probably better resale if you ever upgrade tanks. Its a great skimmer, check the "lets see some tunze skimmate" over on the Tunze forum for some pix.

I too have a 9010 on a 75g in a 30g sump. I love it! You can't go wrong w/Tunze.

They can hang or sit. Mine sits in the sump.

I replaced a Remora with a 9010 running it in-tank. I think the 9010 runs slightly louder but skims much, much better.

Definitely, get the 9010 over the 9005, stronger pump, and it includes the sump kit for about $30 more.

Plus, the service you get from Tunze is absolutely the best available.

Get the 9010. Replaced my ASM G1X on my 75g w/29g sump with one and it works fantastic!

I have a 9005 and it's pretty good, I wish I had the 9010 though. But I got the 9005 with a sump kit used for $180, so I can't really complain much.
